January 19.  When I was working on my MA in Japanese Art with textiles, one of the units I studied was Shibori.  Way back then there were no directions in English so I learned from drawings that were explained in Japanese.  Even so my efforts were rewarded and this amazing process became one of my favorite skills.  Recently I’ve started a series of brooches, and Arashi Shibori is one of the main elements in these brooches.  The silk is very light in weight making it a perfect material for the pieces, which gives me the freedom to add weight with wire and other materials.  This photos is the first brooch in a series.  It’s called “Finding An Old Path”.
